Alltel announces EV-DO roaming

Alltel has announced that its subscribers can now use laptop cards to access CDMA EV-DO coverage in a number of major cities, thanks to roaming agreements with larger carriers. The carrier did not specify whether its roaming deal was with Verizon Wireless or Sprint Nextel, but Alltel has a long-standing roaming relationship with Verizon Wireless. Some of the cities where the service is available, include: New York City, Boston, Chicago, L.A., Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington DC.

In 2006, Alltel expanded its own EVDO network in more than half its markets. The carrier plans on "aggressively" building out its EVDO network in 2007.
