Alltel expands smartphone plans

Alltel has announced a new set of price options for individual and family plan smartphone users that include My Circle calling, unlimited messaging, data access and mobile-to-mobile calling. The biggest change comes with the addition of a $190 monthly plan that comes with 5,500 anytime minutes, while previously the most expensive plan for smartphone users came to $140 per month for only 2,000 anytime minutes. The carrier also added a cheaper $70 a month plan that includes 500 anytime minutes and the unlimited My Circle calling and data access, but not unlimited messaging.

The new plans arrive just as acquisition rumors about the carrier died down. Reports indicated that Alltel was shopping itself to potential buyers, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint Nextel.
