Alltel Q4 shows increased sales, subs

Alltel's wireless unit posted a good Q4, but overall revenue slid 12 percent because of the spinoff of Alltel's traditional phone business. Alltel merged it with Valor in a $4.9 billion deal in Q3.

The wireless unit, however, turned a profit of $234.95 million, compared to $155.08 million in the year before. Alltel CEO Scott Ford also gave a nod to rumors that the U.S.'s fifth top carrier is a potential acquisition target: Saying that they're reviewing "a broad spectrum of options" in a process that should take several months. The carrier added 228,000 net subscribers and ARPU is up 1 percent year-on-year at $55.84. Alltel added a total of 640,000 net subscribers in 2006.
