Not surprisingly, we're seeing large operators snapping up small, regional operators as regional players struggle in an environment dominated by national or nearly national operators with cheap country-wide pricing plans. Alltel purchased First Cellular of Southern Illinois, a locally owned wireless service provider in Mt. Vernon. Verizon Wireless recently acquired a small cellular operator in Northern California, Cal-One Cellular, which operates under the Cal North Wireless brand.
