Android's gains erode Apple's mobile Web dominance

Google's Android platform has grown at a prodigious rate this past year, action now reflected in mobile Web usage statistics. According to new data from Web metrics firm Quantcast, Android devices accounted for 25 percent of mobile Web usage in North America in August. That represents a 2 percent increase from July and an 18.6 percent year-over-year increase. Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS platform, meanwhile, still leads the market--it now represents 56 percent of mobile Web consumption, which is down 0.3 percent month-over-month and 11.4 percent year-over-year.
