Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse made good on their September announcement to launch stand-alone mobile-phone stores. The two are piloting a mobile phone-exclusive store concept at nine locations throughout Manhattan. Branded Best Buy Mobile, the stores aim to improve what Best Buy calls a generally inadequate U.S. mobile retail experience by providing a broader selection of products and carrier options, supported by knowledgeable and impartial store associates. This could be the start of a great trend given the fact that the low usage of data services can be partly attributed to a lack of customer education at the distribution level.
