C&L: Verizon names Strigl pres and COO

Verizon has appointed Verizon Wireless president Denny Strigl as president and COO of the parent company, effective January 1. Strigl will report to Verizon chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg. EVP and COO of Verizon Wireless Lowell McAdam will succeed Strigl as head of the wireless company.

Strigl has headed Verizon Wireless since its advent in April 2000 when the company combined assets from Bell Atlantic, Vodafone AirTouch and GTE. Strigl previously served as president and CEO of Bell Atlantic Mobile and group president and CEO of Bell Atlantic Global Wireless. In all, Strigl has close to 40 years of experience in the telecom industry, beginning with a post at New York Telephone Company in 1968.
