Chutes & Ladders: Nortel names new CSO

Nortel named George Riedel its chief strategy officer. Riedel is now responsible for overall business development and especially M&A. Riedel most recently served Juniper Networks as VP of strategy and corporate development. The appointment is expected to be a relatively smooth one, especially compared to the company's recent appointment of CEO and president Mike Zafirovski last year. Zafirovski's appointment led to a heated exchange with his former employer Motorola and resulted in Nortel paying Motorola $11.5 million to settle non-compete agreements.
