DoCoMo scraps i-mode plans with Hutch Essar

In a somewhat expected move, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has scrapped plans to offer its wireless Internet service, i-mode, to Hutchison Essar, following a $11.1 billion acquisition of the Indian carrier by Vodafone. Last December, DoCoMo and Essar inked the deal for the service, but i-mode directly competes with Vodafone's mobile Internet service, Vodafone Live! DoCoMo said: "India is an attractive market and we want to continue to look for other opportunities to offer i-mode in that country."
