EC backs in-flight cell phone use

Some European regulators support letting passengers use cell phones on commercial air flights. In a report called "Certification Considerations for Cellular Telephone Systems in Civil Transport Aircraft," regulators claim that in-flight use of mobile phones would improve airplane security and pose no siginifcant risk to the operations of commercial aircraft. The aviation authorities of each member state in the EU, however, have the final say in Europe. In the US, the Federal Aviation Authority has the final authority on the issue.
