According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, business use of mobile instant messaging (IM) will lead to a $2 billion-plus opportunity in Western Europe and North America by 2010. IT-sanctioned and rogue use of mobile IM are both set to contribute to the growth. Strategy Analytics also predicts that mobile IM will set the stage for the integration of "presence" or "availability" into a range of enterprise applications. Key IM drivers include increased enterprise awareness of IM's benefits, a new breed of sub-$150 QWERTY smartphones, the advent of IMS core networks and millions of IM-dependent users about to flood the workforce.
