Ericsson to manage 3 UK's network

Ericsson and British operator 3 inked a managed services deal that will give Ericsson control over 3's UK network for the next seven years. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, but insiders say the deal is nearly equivalent to the one 3 signed for its Italian network for about $1.87 billion. Under the terms of the deal, more than 1,000 of 3's employees will be transferred to Ericsson. The carrier will retain ownership of the network and IT assets, but Ericsson will be responsible for the management, operation and performance of the network. Ericsson and 3 already have multi-vendor network management deals in Australia and Italy and a messaging platform management deal in Sweden.
