France Telecom may bid for Spanish carrier

France Telecom (FT) today said it may make a bid to acquire Amena, Spain's third-largest wireless carrier. FT has sent due diligence teams to Amena as part of the process. The carrier said it is too early to comment on Amena's potential market value, though some analysts estimate that the carrier could fetch as much as $11 billion. If France Telecom decides to make a bid, it will be the carrier's first attempt at an acquisition since its debt became a major issue three years ago. Amena is Spain's third-largest carrier behind Telefonica Moviles and Vodafone with a market share of 24 percent.
