Ho-ho-huh? 2009's holiday-themed commercials for wireless

It's that time of the year again. The stockings have been hung by the chimney with care, and the wireless industry's already-overtaxed advertising agencies have unwrapped their presents early. Yup: It's time to look at all of the holiday-themed commercials out there hawking wireless products. Check out the holiday ads from:

This year's crop of ads has a different flavor to it, especially because two of the mainstays that FierceWireless highlighted last year are no longer flashing across TV screens. (Alltel was bought by Verizon Wireless, so the carrier's "Salesguys vs. Santa" ads from last year have not made a repeat performance; and Palm has been pushing its webOS devices, so the company's "Santa's Gone Centro" ads have disappeared.)

To be clear, this holiday season's ad wars have been largely colored by the ongoing spat between Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility over Verizon's "There's a Map For That" ads. Although the two companies had the lawsuits between them over their advertising dismissed, the ad battle goes on. However, this particular report won't cover those ads specifically; we're only looking at commercials that have a direct holiday theme. For additional reporting on the critical fourth-quarter holiday shopping season, check out our holiday handsets for 2009 report.

Also, we aren't critiquing, reviewing or otherwise passing judgment on the products or services highlighted in these holiday-themed ads, just on the commercials themselves. As always, comments and criticisms are encouraged. And please let us know if you think there are other 2009 holiday ads that we may have overlooked. Enjoy! --Phil
