India's wireless subscriber base growth accelerates

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), October brought in 2.9 million Indian mobile phone subscribers, eclipsing the 2.5 million that subscribed in September. The total number of wireless customers in India is now 68 million. TRAI reported that there are still a greater number of GSM platform customers than CDMA customers. The GSM subscriber base grew by 2.11 million users in October to reach a total of 53 million, while the CDMA platform added 0.8 million in October brining its total to 14.4 million. India is one of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) group of emerging global markets.
