Metric: 2.6B global mobile subs this year

By the end of 2006 global mobile subscribers will total 2.6 billion, according to a report by iSuppli. Come 2010, that figure will rise to 4 billion, thanks to the advent of ultra-low-cost mobile phones. News subs in India and China are driving the rapid increase of mobile subscribers. The two countries make up half of the so-called BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) group of developing markets.
