Motorola hires mobile platform chief

Amid the ruckus surrounding activist investor Carl Icahn's bid to ascend to Motorola's board of directors, the lagging handset maker is quietly edifying its handset executive team: Enter Alain Mutricy, an 18-year veteran from Texas Instruments, who is set to join Motorola as SVP for platform technology. Mutricy will report to Terry Vega, the executive in charge of products and technology and co-leader of the mobile devices business. Mutricy is tasked with setting global strategy for both silicon and software platforms as the company looks to diversify its silicon suppliers and simplify its platforms. Mutricy previously served as TI's GM for mobile chipsets.
