NextWave Wireless announced that Inquam Broadband GmbH, a majority-owned NextWave subsidiary, has agreed to acquire a 65 percent controlling interest in Swiss firm, WiMAX Telecom AG.
The key to this purchase is that WiMAX Telecom owns nationwide wireless broadband spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band in Austria, Slovakia and Croatia. The Austrian regulatory agency allows service providers to offer mobile services in that spectrum and it is expected that the same will be true in Slovakia and Croatia.
WiMAX will be a hot topic this week at the WiMAX Strategies 2007 conference hosted by FierceMarkets on June 21. Mark Kelley of NextWave Broadband will be one of the many featured speakers at the conference.
