RELEASE: Symbol certifies DiVitas GPRS to WiFi convergence solution

DiVitas Networks’ Mobile-to-Mobile Convergence Solution Achieves Symbol Technologies’ SymbolPLUS Certification DiVitas and Symbol Collaborate to Deliver Mobility Solutions to the Enterprise; DiVitas Also Joins Symbol’s PartnerSelect Program MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--DiVitas Networks™, a leading provider of seamless mobile-to-mobile convergence solutions for the enterprise, today announced that its Mobile Convergence Appliance™ and Mobile Convergence Client™ for dual-mode handsets has been co-validated through Symbol’s Solutions Validation Program, and will bear the SymbolPLUS Validated Software logo. In addition, DiVitas announced that it has joined Symbol’s PartnerSelect Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Partner Program. This program is designed to promote go-to-market relationships among ISVs, Symbol’s solution and business partners, and SymbolCertified Professional Service Providers worldwide. DiVitas’ solution was tested with Symbol’s MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA), a rugged, enterprise-class handheld device that combines the power of a cell phone, PDA, mobile computer, scanner and imager. DiVitas tested and co-validated wireless voice calls on the Symbol WiFi network, seamlessly moving to-and-from a GPRS/GSM cellular network, and maintaining a connection without interruption. The demonstrations proved that the DiVitas Mobile Convergence Appliance and Mobile Convergence Client software interoperated with Symbol's WiFi network infrastructure products -- WS5100 wireless switch and AP300 access ports. Symbol customers can now use the DiVitas solution to extend the usability of the MC70 EDA to roam seamlessly between WiFi and cellular networks with complete control and manageability by the enterprise. “Symbol is a leader in enterprise mobility solutions and a key partner for DiVitas,” said DiVitas Networks CEO Vivek Khuller. “There’s a natural fit between the two companies, and the SymbolPLUS Validated Software logo assures customers that Symbol’s MC70 EDA handheld device and our mobile-to-mobile convergence solution are interoperable. This interoperability means that wherever enterprise users are they need only one device for all their information and communications needs.” An innovator in the emerging mobile-to-mobile convergence market, DiVitas has developed a unified mobile communications solution that extends the reach of the enterprise by providing seamless roaming between WiFi and cellular networks, while also integrating with business and communications applications. Mobile-to-mobile convergence combines WiFi and cellular communications in a single, dual-mode handheld device. DiVitas’ solution includes an enterprise network appliance and client software that provides a mobile-to-mobile convergence alternative to current cellular and proprietary WiFi solutions and complete control at the IT level. As a company with a solution that has received SymbolPLUS validation and a member of the Symbol PartnerSelect ISV Partner Program, DiVitas can engage in joint technical, sales, and marketing programs with Symbol that will serve to enhance customer offerings and deliver more revenue opportunities for both companies. “DiVitas and Symbol engineers tested DiVitas’ mobile convergence solution with our MC70 EDA at our Solutions Center, and co-validated the solution for interoperability,” said Patrick McCullough, vice president and general manager of Symbol’s Solutions Division. “As businesses are looking at Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) to have access to both cellular and Wi-Fi voice with the same phone number and enterprise control on a Symbol device, DiVitas’ solution can meet their need.” DiVitas’ solution works in every type of network environment -- cellular, Wi-Fi, Internet/IP WAN, or wireline -- and with every type of mobile phone, including dual-mode phones, WiFi phones, cellular phones, smartphones, softphones and mobile computers. Because it is designed to work in any WLAN environment, with any PBX, and over any fixed, mobile or wireless network, the DiVitas solution minimizes the cost and complexity of mobile enterprise communications, while maximizing enterprise control and coverage. “Mobile-to-mobile convergence -- the transparent combination of WiFi and cellular -- is absolutely critical to the future of mobile communications,” said Craig Mathias, a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group (Ashland, MA). “DiVitas and Symbol are demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing mobile voice and data across essentially all applications and markets.” About DiVitas DiVitas Networks has developed a new class of enterprise network appliance that provides seamless voice and data mobility over disparate networks to all enterprise employees by taking advantage of disruptive technologies such as WiFi, the Internet, and dual-mode phones.
