According to a recent report from Informa Telecoms & Media and 3G Americas, the milestone of two billion worldwide GSM users will be achieved by the first of July. The surveys includes all subscribers to networks of the GSM family: GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA. The report puts the total global wireless user count at 2.29 billion currently. Latin America and the Caribbean led the world in percentage growth by adding more than 74 million new customers between March 2005 and March 2006--a growth rate of 97 percent. The Middle East and Africa followed with the next largest growth percentages.
