Report: Modeo to beta launch NYC service Monday

GigaOM has an exclusive report that claims Modeo will launch its beta DVB-H-based mobile TV network in New York City on Monday. The launch was originally anticipated by the end of last year, but a failure to sign on carrier partners and the subsequent departure of the Crown Castle unit's mobile TV head slowed the launch down. The Monday launch is strategic since it coincides with the giant Consumer Electronics Show, which takes place in Las Vegas next week. Pundits expect Modeo to use the launch as a way to attract carrier partners to its service. Nokia should also be pleased since the New York launch makes for a sizeable live network for demonstrating its DVB-H handsets.
