According to a report in Computer Business Review, Alltel is sounding out buyers for its wireline business. The division's customer base of nearly 3 million subscribers has fallen 3.7 percent in the last year, while sales for its wireline services decreased by 2.3 percent. On the other hand, Alltel's mobile phone business sales are up 16 percent this year. Other mobile carriers with wireline services are moving to sell their landline divisions. Rumors of Sprint Nextel's intent to sell its wireline business have circulated for months.
