Samsung handset shipments rise

Samsung's handset shipment volume increased a full 17 percent over last quarter to reach 30.7 million, according to CIBC World Markets. The vendor's shipments beat its own guidance and made up for a disappointing previous quarter. CIBC had expected a 28.8 million shipment volume. Analysts say the increase boosted the vendor's handset marketshare a full point to 12.5 percent of the market. CIBC attributes the growth to the company's Ultra series that was launched in the Q2 and was a hit in the U.S. and Europe in Q3. CIBC expects a slight increase for next quarter to 31.3 million.
