September VC funding mostly mobile

Rutberg & Co. says of the 39 digital media start-ups that received VC funding in September, 15 of the companies are developing products and services for the mobile platform. A "significant" portion of the investing went to mobile marketing and advertising companies, which has been a particularly hot segment in the mobile content space lately too. The 39 funding rounds totaled $313 million and companies in the mobile content space pulled in more than $153 million of that total, but "several" of the mobile-related companies did not disclose the figure they raised. "Advertising infrastructure" companies took in $58.2 million in funding during the month, while content service providers and retailers raised $72.5 million.
