Smart SMS releases mobile Visa debit card

Smart SMS is teaming up with boutique brand engineering firm MP3NY to launch mobile banking through Columbia Card Services Mobile Visa Debit Card, which aims to give unbanked Americans, small business owners and immigrants the freedom that comes with a debit card. The service, called T-Weed Wireless Visa is accessible from a mobile phone, PDA, computer or landline telephone. The debit card's account is powered by employment direct deposits or deposits made at Money Gram or Safeway locations. New subscribers just need to have a mobile phone and a U.S. address. The company cites a recent figure from the U.S. Treasury Department to validate its value proposition: 70 million Americans lack access to banking services.
