SPOTLIGHT: Better UIs key to higher ARPUs

High-speed data networks and phones crammed with Internet access, music, video and a host of other multimedia applications may be the enablers for sales of data services, but research firm visiongain points out a continual flaw: The mobile industry still lacks a standard user interface that can drive the mass-market appeal of sophisticated services and devices. If people can't easily access the services, they won't spend time doing so. UIs are far better than they were just four years ago, when it was almost impossible on some devices to access the same application twice the same way, but they still aren't simplified enough to garner broad appeal. Visiongain estimates that a robust and customizable UI is one of the key elements that will drive worldwide data ARPU from $5 in 2005 to $22 by 2011. Article
