SPOTLIGHT: EarthLink looks to franchise muni-WiFi architecture

EarthLink said last week it will franchise its muni-WiFi model to wireless ISPs and operators, despite the fact it hasn't proven its muni-WiFi model is a successful one. In an effort to build out its footprint, the ISP says it will share its WiFi architecture plans, offer volume pricing for equipment and services and share EarthLink products and support infrastructure if licensees agree to a roaming agreement with EarthLink. The company also plans to request a right of first refusal if WISPs sell out. Article
