Japan's handsets are far and away some of the most technologically advanced around. Like other Asian markets, the early penetration levels of Japan wireless markets made it a thriving environment for handset makers--perhaps too thriving. Many of Japan's OEMs, like Toshiba, were so focused on Japan's booming wireless market that they missed the boat for global domination.
