SPOTLIGHT: Pakistan's big plans for mobile WiMAX

Motorola says Pakistan plans to roll out the largest mobile WiMAX network to date. Wateen Telecom will deploy Motorola's 802.16e-based Motowi4 network with an expected uptake of 1 million subscribers and a nationwide roll out following. As expected, WiMAX is beginning to fill in the gaps in countries that have lacked the infrastructure for widespread broadband services. Motorola also made its first public demonstration of third-party interoperability of its WiMax products, showing off a third-party PCMCIA card that uses a mobile WiMax chip from Beceem Communications.
