Sprint acquires Gulf Coast Wireless for $278.5M

After a long, drawn-out negotiation, Sprint Nextel has officially taken over Gulf Coast Wireless for $287.5 million. The Sprint affiliate's estimated 1,000,000 subscribers to Sprint PCS services in Louisiana and Mississippi will now enter the Sprint Nextel fold directly. The deal also marks the end of the lawsuit Gulf Coast filed in anticipation of Sprint's $38 billion merger with Nextel, which it said would breach an agreement not to compete directly.
