Sprint announced two big deals at HIMSS today: The carrier is teaming up with two vendors to bring mobility and speech recognition to the healthcare industry. The Sprint-Vocera component allows a physician or attending nurse outside the hospital to communicate at all times with his or her staff wearing Vocera badges by using the walkie-talkie feature on their Sprint and Nextel handsets. The Sprint-Nuance component of the announcement enables physicians to easily update and check patients' medical records by allowing a physician to dictate his/her requirements directly to a Sprint phone to obtain current information.
