T-Mobile quietly launches data-only plans for smartphones

As expected, T-Mobile rolled out data-only plans for customers interested in using their phones for everything but talking. And it did so very quietly.

The Wall Street Journal reported the carrier is offering the plans for as little as $20 a month, but they aren't sold online or marketed by the company -- at least not yet. The launch confirms a report from TmoNews earlier this week that T-Mobile would introduce a half-dozen new data plans available only on its GSM phones.

While they surely won't have broad appeal, the plans could prove compelling for users looking to use their phones for video, web access and other data-consuming activities. Article
