T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint discount iPhone X

T-Mobile said that, starting tomorrow, it will offer a $300 discount on the Apple iPhone X to customers who trade in a qualifying iPhone and purchasing the gadget with the carrier’s Equipment Installment Plan (EIP). That offer largely matches existing promotions currently being pushed by Verizon and Sprint.

iPhone X promotions are noteworthy considering the gadget, starting at around $1,000, is one of the most expensive phones ever in the industry.

Indeed, some analysts had predicted that the nation’s major wireless operators would begin offering deals on the high-end device as iPhone X inventory improved. “Checks still show a fairly rational competitive pricing environment—even with better supply from the iPhone X,” wrote Jennifer Fritzsche of Wells Fargo in an investor note issued earlier this week. “This last part is key as we were worried that once greater supplies of the device was seen—then the craziness would begin…. The key question is will this last in Q1 when the iPhone X supply continues to improve. Something to watch for sure (especially knowing our little magenta friends tend to get more aggressive in Q1 if history is any guide!).”

The iPhone X isn’t the only Apple product to receive promotional aids from the nation’s wireless carriers. Also starting tomorrow, T-Mobile said it would offer a BOGO on Apple’s iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, or 8 Plus, via rebate. The carrier also currently offers a $50 discount on the new Apple Watch Series 3.

T-Mobile's BOGO offermatches one that Verizon launched last week supporting the iPhone 8 and the Galaxy S8. AT&T is also offering a BOGO on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

An AT&T spokesperson said the carrier also offers trade-in promotions for all of its smartphones.

For its part, Sprint offers a $300 discount to customers who buy an iPhone 8 with its Flex program and trade in a device. The company also offers three free months of service on the Apple Watch Series 3.
