Fixed wireless provider Towerstream, which offers pre-WiMAX in unlicensed spectrum, said it is offering service-level agreements guaranteeing 99.999 percent uptime to small businesses in New York. It is doing so through a wireless T-1 with dual base station redundancy, which essentially establishes two wireless connections with different base stations positioned around the city. The move is significant given the fact that wireless signals in unlicensed frequencies are susceptible to weather and interference. The service, called High-Availability T1+ (HI-VI T1+), is offered for $600 a month and will roll out to select cities in the coming months.
