TracFone inks unlimited calling deal with Vonage

América Móvil's U.S. TracFone unit is partnering with VoIP provider Vonage to offer its prepaid customers unlimited home phone service, further bolstering its value proposition.

The two companies said the deal allows TracFone's prepaid customers to get unlimited local and domestic long-distance phone service at home through Vonage with no annual contract and no commitment. TracFone customers will receive unique offers for the Vonage U.S. & Canada Unlimited calling plan, which provides unlimited local and long distance calling in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Vonage has been steadily expanding its offerings to include mobile components. In April, the company rolled out an expanded calling plan that allows customers unlimited calling in 80 countries, including unlimited calling to mobile phones in 42 countries.

TracFone, which sells the flat-rate, prepaid Straight Talk service and operates as an MVNO using Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ), AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T), and T-Mobile USA's networks, added close to 236,000 net subscribers in the second quarter. TracFone ended the quarter with 18.75 million total subscribers, up 17.9 percent from the year-ago period and up from around 18.5 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter.
