Trend: Ringback tones on the rise

According to a recent report from M:Metrics, while the U.S. ringtone market continues to level off, the ringback market is continuing to rise. Ringback tones are the audio clips that play to callers in lieu of ringing, which means the buyer never really hears the clip, only his or her callers do. Last year the ringback tone market nearly tripled, from 2.4 million subscribers in January to nearly 8 million subscribers in November. Europe saw a ringback tone uptake of about 150 percent.
