Trend: US carriers embrace prepaid

For years, US carriers limited their prepaid wireless services, offering expensive plans and few handsets. Now that the US wireless market is beginning to reach saturation, carriers are changing their positions on prepaid, launching new offerings with better pricing. Virgin Mobile USA proved that prepaid can be profitable in the US market. Both Cingular Wireless and Verizon Wireless have launched updated prepaid services in recent months, with better calling prices and improved handsets. According to several analysts, the majority of US wireless growth in the next few years will come from prepaid, not postpaid.
