U.K. operator 3 partners with Bitfone for OTA updates

Hutchison Whampoa's U.K. 3G operator, 3, announced a deal with Bitfone to provide over-the-air (OTA) delivery of firmware to its subscribers. The carrier plans to use the technology to send proactive OTA updates to its subscribers handsets. Bitfone's MVP Open Mobile Alliance standards-based device management system was first announced in July of last year and enables carriers to send updates and customize subscribers' handsets while still in the end users' hands. 3 plans to use the OTA for customer service, entertainment and information services.
