Verizon and AT&T outline their distributed antenna system rollouts

The market for distributed antenna systems (DAS) stretches across a variety of areas. Some DAS installations are conducted by wireless carriers themselves, while others are handled by third parties. Some DAS rollouts are even completed by building owners and managers. But the market could grow into something significant: According to a recent forecast from SNS Research, the market for DAS infrastructure gear will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 11 percent over the next five years and account for nearly $4 billion in revenue.

Not surprisingly, both Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) are putting a significant amount of emphasis on DAS. For example, AT&T in 2009 installed a DAS network at Cowboys Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys--in July of this year, the facility was renamed AT&T Stadium. Verizon too is leveraging DAS, along with small cells and other techniques, to bolster its coverage.
