Verizon Wireless announced Lucent Technologies will supply the operator with EV-DO Rev. A hardware and software as the carrier upgrades its nationwide network. EV-DO significantly increases peak data speeds to 3.1 Mbps on the uplink and enables real-time data services like VoIP and PTT. The market has been waiting for Verizon's timeline for Rev. A, and it will have to wait longer. Verizon didn't give any date when the network will light up. Competitor Sprint Nextel Sprint announced earlier this year it would roll out Rev. A services nationwide by the end of next year, but it has not named an equipment supplier.
