Verizon will announce LTE vendors at MWC

Vendors are going to be very interested in Verizon Communications Executive Vice President and CTO Richard Lynch's keynote address next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In the company's first-ever appearance at this show, Lynch will be announcing the LTE equipment vendors that the company has selected for its deployment that is scheduled to begin by year-end.

According to Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson, the LTE vendors do not know whether or not they have been selected so there is great anticipation for Lynch's speech in Barcelona. Verizon plans to deploy LTE in its 700 MHz spectrum that it acquired early last year in the 700 MHz spectrum auction.

Numerous vendors are vying for a piece of the Verizon contract. Telecom infrastructure vendors have been hit hard by the struggling economy and Verizon's announcement will likely provide the winning vendors with some much-needed good news.

Be sure to check the FierceWireless Website on Feb. 18 for our exclusive interview with Lynch as he reveals more details of Verizon's LTE deployment and its vendor choices.
