Virgin launches for EVDO phone

Virgin Mobile USA launched its first EVDO handset, the Shuttle, from Personal Communications Devices. The handset, which retails for $100, is going to be sold exclusively from Best Buy beginning Sept. 28.

Just a couple weeks after closing on its acquisition of Helio, Virgin's new Shuttle phone will be the first to integrate Helio features such as the improved access to social networking communities. In addition, it will be the first to offer LBS services from uLocate. The Shuttle features a 1.3 megapixel camera, video capture and playback and has an integrated media player that supports streaming music and video.

To get subscribers to use the new higher-speed phone, the company also launched three new data plans to accompany a voice package. Prepaid users can pay $5 per month for 5 MB of data; $10 per month for 20 Mb of data and $20 per month for 50 MB of data.
