Vodafone taps Sagem for branded handsets

Vodafone inked a deal with Safran unit Sagem to make low-cost "extraslim" GSM handsets that will only carry Vodafone's brand. The handsets will be available in all of Vodafone's markets, but will be designed with emerging markets, like India and Africa, in mind. Sagem recently announced that it would manufacture handsets for Sony Ericsson. The two deals are a saving grace for the handset maker, which many believed would be dumped by its parent company after a few rough years of hemorrhaging money.
