A few months ago we reported that users of the popular massively multiplayer social networking game Second Life were using virtual mobile phones to text one another within the game and the "real" world. We predicted it was only a matter of time until mobile carriers took notice and figured out a way to capitalize on this new "virtual" mobile network operator angle: Well, today Vodafone hinted that it may do just that. Vodafone plans to announce the details of the launch in the coming weeks. It's funny, Vodafone pulled out of Belgium, Japan and Sweden last year--but announced its plan to enter Second Life.
