Warner Bros. to move into off-portal content

Warner Brothers told 3GSM attendees that the company plans to begin its own mobile Internet site to distribute TV, video and even films to cell phone users. Off-portal, or direct-to-consumer, content is poised to grow in the U.S., with Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel embracing the concept as a way to grow revenues without having to do any of the heavy lifting. For Warner Bros., it doesn't mind sharing as much as 50 percent of the revenues with carriers for ringtones that are sold on carrier decks, but that revenue-sharing arrangement is not good enough for TV and movies if consumers watch movies on their phones instead of DVDs.
