Who will be this year's Fierce 15?

Every year FierceWireless editors evaluate dozens of the most innovative and smart emerging companies in the wireless industry. Our final selection--the top 15--are awarded a Fierce 15 designation and featured prominently in the newsletter. We are in the midst of compiling our list of 2009 Fierce 15 companies and that feature will make its debut next month. Click here to see the 2008 Fierce 15 list.

We typically make our selections based upon the numerous briefings and interactions our editors have with companies in the industry every year. To qualify for the Fierce 15, a company must be privately held, well funded, emerging (founded in the past few years) and have the potential to become a major player in the industry. In this tough economic climate, we're finding that there are fewer emerging companies, but the stronger firms stand out because of the current difficulties involved in landing VC funds. If you think your company has the potential to be a Fierce 15, please send me a note.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the newest member of the Fierce editorial team, Mike Dano. Many of you may already know Mike from his nine-year stint with RCR Wireless News, as both a reporter and online editor. Mike joins Fierce as the managing editor of the Wireless Group where he will be overseeing the Web sites, managing the delivery of the newsletters and handling the special editorial features. I'm excited to have another wireless veteran join the team. Look for more interesting and innovative editorial content coming your way. You can contact Mike at [email protected]

And finally, Fierce will be taking a non-publishing holiday tomorrow for Good Friday. Look for us back in your in-box Monday, April 13. Have a great holiday.  --Sue
