Sony Ericsson to offer developers 70% of PlayNow revenues

Sony Ericsson announced its PlayNow arena application submission site is now open to all Java ME and Symbian OS developers. Programmers may submit apps for PlayNow arena as well as the handset maker's existing Fun & Downloads service--according to the Sony Ericsson Content Submission website, there is no charge for developers to submit their apps, and no annual fees. Developers will earn 70 percent of net revenues generated via app sales, with distribution spanning across up to 69 markets. Sony Ericsson previously stated that both PlayNow arena and Fun & Downloads will offer multiple billing solutions, including SMS transactions, credit card usage and operator billing.

In early June, Sony Ericsson said it will collaborate with independent mobile applications portal GetJar to add apps to PlayNow arena, promising consumers one-click access to a fully integrated content marketplace. The store will initially roll out across 38 compatible handset models--Sony Ericsson adds that PlayNow arena will expand to additional devices and operating systems later this year.
