Ubuntu Pro is now part of the Amazon EC2 console

Canonical, a leading open-source provider of cloud computing services, has announced that Ubuntu Pro is now available in a subscription-included model on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Users can now launch Ubuntu Pro on-demand instances and purchase Ubuntu Pro Compute Savings Plans from the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) console.

Running Ubuntu machines with expanded security maintenance, kernel live patch, and hardening scripts out of the box are a few of the many benefits users can access when launching new Ubuntu Pro machines on Amazon EC2, as Ubuntu Pro enables all these features by default.

In addition, Ubuntu Pro provides access to Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and Ubuntu Security Guide for DISA STIG and CIS security dashboard. Customers can reach out to Canonical for additional 24/7 support.

The Amazon EC2 console is a web-based interface that allows users to launch and manage their virtual servers on AWS. With the addition of Ubuntu Pro, users will now have access to an even wider range of tools and features to help them optimize their cloud infrastructure such as extended and expanded security coverage, kernel livepatching, system hardening, and FIPS. Users can also  easily deploy Ubuntu Pro on-demand instances and purchase Ubuntu Pro on-demand instances and Ubuntu Pro Compute Savings Plans from the Amazon EC2 console while getting benefit from using the AWS Pricing Calculator.

“Ubuntu Pro is what we needed on top of Ubuntu. It allows us to deploy our stack with better security coverage through FIPS, ESM and Livepatch. Having it in the Quick Start menu will help us to optimize usage cost thanks to the pay-as-you-go model.” said Patrick Kaeding from LaunchDarkly.

“AWS is excited to work with Canonical for the launch of Ubuntu Pro on Amazon EC2 in a subscription-included model,” said Fred Wurden, vice president of Commercial Software Services at AWS. “Customers across various industries run a wide range of mission-critical enterprise applications using Ubuntu on AWS. With Ubuntu Pro’s extended five-year security maintenance commitment, customers can rest easy that patches will be available so they can focus on delivering value to their customers.”
