Omar Tazi becomes T-Mobile’s chief product guru

Omar Tazi, a former member of T-Mobile’s board of directors, is joining the company as its executive vice president and chief product officer. Tazi resigned from T-Mobile’s board of directors last November when he decided to become EVP and chief product officer at the company. Tazi announced his new role via Twitter.

According to Tazi’s LinkedIn profile, he previously held a similar position at Deutsche Telekom where he was the chief product and innovation officer. In that role, he oversaw the company’s group products and customer experience and also handled its device partnerships. Deutsche Telekom owns a 48.4% stake in T-Mobile US.

Tazi also served as chairman of Deutsche Telekom’s tech incubator, hubraum, which is focused on early stage startups in 5G, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things. He resigned from that role at the end of 2022.

The role of chief product officer is a new one for T-Mobile. However, last April Dow Draper, EVP of emerging business at T-Mobile, left the company after serving in that role for a little over two years.  The company didn’t replace him and instead said that his responsibilities were being handled by Mike Katz, the company’s chief marketing officer. Tazi will report to Katz.

Update:  Article was updated to note that Tazi will report to Mike Katz, T-Mobile's CMO.
