Mavenir trims marketing staff: report

Mavenir made significant cuts to its marketing team last week, Mobile World Live (MWL) reports.

According to Maryvonne Tubb, SVP of global marketing and corporate communications at Mavenir, the overall headcount is about the same, resulting in a net loss of two positions.

“The real story is the success of Mavenir and our growth over the last two years!!,” she told Fierce.

Tubb told MWL that the company grew from 3,200 employees two years ago to 6,000 in May 2022.

Mavenir is a long-time industry vendor and makes the bulk of its revenues from IMS core and packet core technologies. It’s also become well-known as one of the leaders in the move to open Radio Access Network (RAN), or O-RAN for short, which is designed to open up the RAN market to more competition than the traditional likes of Ericsson and Nokia.

In June, rival and fellow open RAN advocate Parallel Wireless laid off a significant number of people, citing, in part, the slow pace of open RAN adoption. Parallel CEO Steve Papa later explained that part of it was due to the company needing to act more like it’s participating in a marathon rather than spending like it’s a sprint.

Mavenir was the first vendor to be named as part of the Dish Network 5G network build. Mavenir SVP of Business Development John Baker told Fierce earlier this year that they were very focused on getting Dish up live with a complete 5G standalone network and that Dish’s FDD frequency bands make it unique in terms of carrier aggregation and radio design.

Mavenir worked with AWS on cloudification of the RAN as well for Dish.

The company says it’s working with more than 250 communications service provider and enterprises serving more than 50% of the world’s subscribers in 120 countries.
